Patients' readiness for dietary change at the beginning of counselling: a transtheoretical model-based assessment.

2003

Background  The purpose of this study was to explore patients' readiness for dietary change within a theoretical framework of the transtheoretical model. The patients were recently diagnosed to have type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance. We discuss the theoretical aspects of appropriate dietary counselling strategies from a standpoint of patient-specific stages of change. Methods  The data included 32 audiotaped diabetes counselling sessions with 16 patients conducted by two nurses. The transcribed data was analysed by using deductive content analysis. Results  The patients were at different stages of change of diabetes-affected dietary behaviour. Their stages of change varied in di…

Responsive versus Treatment-Resistant Perpetrators in Batterer Intervention Programs: Personal Characteristics and Stages of Change.

Validation of the Working Alliance Inventory–Observer Short Version with male intimate partner violence offenders

2018

The working alliance is a key element to increase intimate partner violence (IPV) offenders' motivation, adherence to treatment, and active participation in batterer intervention programs (BIPs). The objective of the present study is to assess the psychometric properties and factor structure of the Working Alliance Inventory-Observer Short Version (WAI-O-S) with a sample of IPV offenders. The sample was 140 men convicted for IPV and court-mandated to a community-based BIP. Inter-rater agreement and reliability were evaluated by computing the intraclass correlation coefficient. To test the latent structure a Bayesian confirmatory factor analysis approach was used. To test criterion-related v…

The findings demonstrate the importance of attending to the interactional elements in abuser treatment programs and show the value of matching an abuser’s needs and degree of motivation with the timing of interventions. It is…

Motivational Regulations Across the Stages of Change for Exercise in the General Population of Monterrey (Mexico)

2018

Few studies have examined exercise adherence in the Mexican population using self-determination theory proposals and the stages of change model. This study included 530 participants between 11 and 76 years old who lived in the metropolitan area of the city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The Mexican version of the BREQ-3 presented an acceptable six-factor model that agrees with the …
